This phenomenon, which was mainly visible in Valle del Cauca and which was recorded in photographs, is known as “Solar Halo”. According to Ideam, this “occurs due to the presence of tiny ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere at approximately 10 km high. refracting sunlight.”

The World Meteorological Organization complements this definition and adds that “this is a set of optical phenomena” and that it generally occurs in cold places such as Antarctica or Alaska or in the boreal areas of Russia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

This ring, which in some parts can be seen white and shiny and in others with the appearance of a rainbow, also indicates a humid and cold atmosphere. (You can read: Minambiente proposes changing rules for environmental licensing of renewable energies)
