What is and how to use Amazon Prime Reading

by time news

Amazon Prime Reading, as the name suggests, is Amazon Prime’s “streaming of books”. And it’s already included in the package – at no additional cost – when you subscribe to the service, which also includes Prime Video, Prime Music and Twitch Prime.

So, when you subscribe to Amazon Prime, all titles with the “Prime” seal in the catalog are available for download. Among them are books, magazines and graphic novels. It’s a logic similar to the PlayStation Plus subscription, in which you can download games from the package, without paying for each one of them.

How to use

To access the Prime Reading catalog, simply access its page on the Amazon website (Image: Reproduction)

At first, to read a title included in the subscription, just access the Prime Reading page on the Amazon website. There, you can browse by titles and categories. Among them are:

  • eBooks;
  • Magazines;
  • Fiction;
  • Non-Fiction;
  • Quick reads.

In addition, the page has titles in languages other than Portuguese and some selections. For example: What’s New in Magazines, Recommended for You, Top Reads, What’s New on Prime Reading, and Last Chance to Read on Prime Reading.

By the way, you can also find titles included in the service by browsing the “general catalog” of Amazon. What indicates the inclusion is the stamp “Prime R$ 0.00”. If the title has it, you can download it or send it to a reading device like the Kindle.

Limitations

Despite the fact that the “Prime” label occupies a considerable part of the Amazon catalog, Prime Reading has its limitations.

First, you can only download ten books at a time – when you exceed that limit, you have to delete an old one to free up space for a new one. Second: the available catalog is smaller compared to Kindle Unlimited, which offers more variety and more famous (and recent) titles.

In addition, the collection is rotating. That is, a title that you see today in the catalog may disappear tomorrow without notice – unless you have included it in your quota of ten downloads.

Finally, an important point: there is no Amazon Prime Reading app. You can download titles to read offline on the Kindle app (available for Android and iPhone) or on the Kindle device itself.

How much does it cost

Prime Reading has no individual cost, as it is included in the R$9.90 monthly subscription (or R$89 annual) to Amazon Prime. You can also try the service for 30 days by creating an account on the site. And you can cancel it at any time.

Kindle Unlimited is another reading service marketed by the company, separate from the Amazon Prime subscription. This one costs BRL 19.90 per month and does not include Prime features.
