The Ministry of Public Health has launched the project «Development of the comprehensive strategy to address the socioeconomic phenomenon of drugs and strengthening mental health». Its main objective is to provide comprehensive care to the entire population that experiences problems such as depression, anxiety, stress, and those associated with the problematic use of alcohol, tobacco, and other substances.
This initiative seeks to facilitate comprehensive research on the socioeconomic phenomenon of drugs and mental health. Likewise, it is proposed to establish a surveillance system that includes standards and guidelines to collect information in order to identify and record cases of suicide attempts, in order to prevent them.
One of the central objectives of this project is to improve access, coverage and quality of mental health services offered by the National Health System.
In addition, it is intended to contribute to the reduction of the demand related to the socioeconomic phenomenon of drugs.
The main goal is to achieve a 2% decrease in the suicide mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants, as well as a 1% reduction in tobacco use among young people between the ages of 13 and 15. With these results, a positive impact on the health and well-being of the population is expected, promoting a comprehensive and effective approach to the problems associated with drugs and strengthening mental health in general.
