An Il-76 military aircraft crashed during takeoff in the Ivanovo region, Day.Az reports with reference to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, there were eight crew members and seven passengers on board. The cause of the disaster was a fire in one of the engines during takeoff. A commission from the Main Command of the Russian Aerospace Forces flew to the Ivanovo airfield.
At about 14:15 Baku time, residents of Ivanovo wrote on social networks that either a drone or an airplane fell at the Northern airfield.
After some time, Mash reported that a plane caught fire in the sky above the Severny airfield in the Ivanovo region, but they managed to land the plane.
“According to our information, the ship caught fire in the air. According to preliminary data, the right engine caught fire. They report from the scene that the plane was able to make an emergency landing in the area of the local cemetery. Now there is a fire there, black smoke is spreading throughout the area,” the source wrote.
According to “112”, we are talking about an Il-76, it fell a little short of the Severny airfield and still crashed in a forest plantation. The source said that there were no casualties or destruction on the ground, and emergency services arrived at the scene.
“During landing, the plane’s engine fell off. Several ambulances went to the scene. There are no official comments yet. The Il-76 plane crashed in the Ivanovo region during landing. According to preliminary data, it crashed in the territory of a cemetery near the village of Bogorodskoye, not far from the airfield. There were 12 people on board. The plane is half destroyed. Now it is on fire,” Baza noted.
According to “112”, the plane that crashed near Ivanovo was based in Tver.
“During takeoff from the Severny airfield, its engine caught fire. After making a circle, the crew tried to make an emergency landing back on the runway, but failed. According to updated data, there were 12 people on board – 7 crew members and 5 passengers. Their fate is still unknown,” – said the source.
According to SHOT, the preliminary cause of the emergency with the Il-76 was a technical malfunction; a smoke trail from the engine appeared almost immediately after takeoff, then the engine caught fire, and soon a part of it fell off; there were 10 people on board.
According to Mash, the emergency occurred due to a bird hitting one of the right engines.
“The crew attempted to return to the airfield, made a circle. And when they realized that they couldn’t survive, they tried to pull the ship away from residential buildings until the last minute. As a result, it crashed near the village of Podtalitsy, two kilometers from the airfield. Ambulance doctors and rescuers,” the source said.
Mash added that 15 people died in the plane crash. A rescue helicopter inspects the crash site.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the death toll.
