According to the minister, the investigation is not a “witch hunt”. The aim is to show that the current size of the program is unsustainable for the government’s accounts.
What is Perse
Perse was created in May 2021 to help the events sector, seriously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The program benefits from hotels to advertising production companies. The law includes hotels, buffets, bars and restaurants, travel agencies, amusement parks, production of shows, cinemas, chartered transport and excursions, photography and filming of parties, film production companies for advertising, among others.
The benefited companies receive a debt discount. Beneficiaries are entitled to a discount of up to 70% on the total amount of the debt and a maximum payment period of up to 145 months, with a reduction of up to 100% in interest and fines.
The program also eliminates the collection of federal taxes. As a result, benefiting companies have zero rates for PIS/Pasep, Cofins, CSLL and IPRJ. The benefits are valid until 2026.
