It seems like a little Yves Saint Laurent flashes through the images. Black and white aesthetics, black double-breasted blazer, Gisele Bündchen with a blow-dried Catherine Deneuve mane: the campaign, photographed by star photographer Steven Meisel, promotes a new capsule collection from Zara, designed by designer Stefano Pilati.
And Pilati was in fact creative director of the Yves Saint Laurent brand for eight years. As Tom Ford’s successor, Pilati worked there from 2004 to 2012. He had previously worked for Giorgio Armani and designed together with Miuccia Prada for his Miu Miu label.
After Pilati resigned from Yves Saint Laurent, he worked for Zegna and Agnona for a few years, until he turned his back on the big fashion circus in 2016 and founded his own label, Random Identities.

The Spanish brand Zara has hired a truly first-rate artist and a Berliner for its latest mini collection, as Pilati, Milanese by birth, has lived in the German capital for many years. His collection, which is now available to buy at Zara, is characterized by his sense of urban elegance, which these days never feels uncomfortable or too serious.
In addition to casual two-piece suits, modern-cut tuxedos and voluminous faux fur, there is also a costume covered in small woolen strawberries, jeans with a banana pattern or a real leather jacket with holes in the metal eyelets.

The “Stefano Pilati x Zara” collection combines humor and knowledge – and it’s affordable. For example, a blouse with ruffles in a cotton-viscose blend costs around 80 euros, a two-piece dress around 300 euros and a teddy coat around 230 euros. There are also shoes and bags. The highlight is a “bag chain” with many small zippered cases. The designer piece costs 139 euros. This is how autumn can come!
