If you have your pets, dogs or household companions but you have not processed their CURP, do not wait any longer because not having it could cause you to suffer a fine; Here we tell you how to process it and how much you would have to pay if you don’t get it.

At least in Mexico City it will be mandatory for your dog or cat to have a CURP, so that in this way your pets can be cared for and obtain benefits in terms of health.

Since last April 1, this document became mandatory for “Chilanga pets” and in any case it is like a CURP, but in reality it is a Single Registry of Pets (RUAC).

You are probably wondering why your pet would need something like that, but the reality is that this way your pet will be registered under the regulations and plans to benefit them.

It is worth mentioning that the registration has been active since last year 2021, but at that time it was voluntary and now it falls under the term “mandatory”.

Having this type of CURP for pets will allow the authorities to have their complete vaccination schedule: anti-rabies, deworming, zoonotic diseases, sterilization, among other aspects.

How can I process the RUAC for my pet?

The person in charge of this process is the Animal Care Agency (AGATAN), who actually started the initiative, but the best thing is that the process is free for the owners.

There are different ways to carry out the procedure, it can be online or you can even go in person to help you do it.

For the online procedure, these are the steps:

  • You must enter this RUAC link
  • Log in or create an account
  • Once you are logged in, enter your personal information.
  • The system will ask you for your pet’s information and you will have to fill it out
  • You will point out the aspects of the home in which your pet lives
  • The page will ask you to provide physical details of your pet and take photos
  • Once everything is done, the system will give you the CURP or RUAC of your animal

In person, the procedure is practically the same, but you must go to the Animal Care Centers, of which there is one per mayor, and bring the following requirements:

  • Proof of address
  • Official ID
  • Pet vaccination record
  • Photography of the animal

It is worth mentioning that in the sad event that your pet gets lost, someone who has a RUAC will have you given a microchip with a tag that they will provide you to make it easier to find it.

How much is the fine for not getting your pet’s CURP?

Owners residing in Mexico City who fail to carry out this process for their pet may be subject to a financial fine ranging from 20 to 30 times the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA), which refers to an amount between 2 thousand 279 pesos to 3 thousand 257.

On the other hand, it would also mean that the owner could be arrested for 25 to 36 hours.
