What is the importance of healthy eating in Mexico?

But, in some cases, for people it represents much more than that and a real pleasure for the senses, an effective tool for communication and social bonding and also the favorite way for people to take care of their health. That is why having a healthy diet should be a prerequisite for many.

Concern for healthy eating has been a constant throughout the history of mankind. People have always known that having a good diet is important for their lives and directly affects the maintenance and recovery of health.

Enjoying a healthy diet can influence the mood

In today’s society, people are increasingly aware that one of the most important factors that can influence their mood is enjoying a healthy diet. Statistics show that health is a concern of the first order in all societies. There is, therefore, a growing interest in nutrition and healthy eating habits and when shopping for food, health is one of the main reasons taken into account for choosing them.

Consumer taste is changing

Although the number of people who are adopting healthier eating habits increases every day, if a general review of the diet in Mexico is made, some not so positive data can be discovered, such as the following (obtained from the ENSANUT 2016):

Only 42.3% of adults regularly consume vegetables, 51.3% fruits and 70% legumes. 85.3% regularly consume non-dairy sugary drinks. 38% consume snacks, sweets and desserts. 45.6% consume sweet cereals.

The consumption of unhealthy food and beverages still predominates among Mexicans, but it is true that the taste of consumers is slowly changing as it is oriented towards the consumption of foods that promote a higher quality lifestyle. The incorporation of healthy foods to the shopping cart responds not only to a lifestyle but also to a new social and cultural approach to food.
