Vaiko, who erupted like a volcano in Parliament when the Indian peacekeeping forces hunted Eelam Tamils. Vaiko’s younger brother Y. Ravichandran was imprisoned for a year under the Tada Act because he gave shelter and medical treatment to the LTTE who were injured in the war and lost their arms and legs.
Thirumavalavan himself has pointed out on many platforms that Vaiko is the reason why Tamil Nadu’s freedom struggle and LTTE leader Prabhakaran are engraved on the walls of the hearts of the youth of Tamil Nadu. It cannot be denied that Vaiko suffered many losses in the political arena of Tamil Nadu due to his support for the LTTE. Vaiko was arrested under POTA Act and spent 577 days in Vellore Venkotumai Jail.
