When we talk about the quantum Internet, a science fiction movie about the subject immediately comes to mind. It’s something that really seems to be far from our reality, however, it may be much closer to becoming something of everyday life than you imagine. On this subject, we can highlight the scholar Ronald Hanson and an article published by the American scientific journal Nature. In that matter, the Digital Look brought many curiosities and news about the quantum Internet.

the quantum internet

According to Ronald Hanson, co-author of an article published in the scientific journal Nature, it will be a network on a global scale superior to the current internet that will connect users through new applications specific to the ‘quantum universe’. Still according to Hanson, this technology is not yet being used openly, but when it becomes a form of public communication, it promises greater security in cyberspace.

According to this article, the research reveals information about a powerful phenomenon, considered even difficult to carry out: quantum teleportation. In this phenomenon, it is possible to transfer information elements between locations without having to move physical matter from the location where they are stored.

It is important to note that the internet currently transmits information decoded in bits (0 or 1/binary), which ends up limiting the size of the transmission capacity that can be transported, whereas in the quantum internet, these bits can be exposed excessively. That is, the values 0 and 1 will be transmitted at the same time, partially as one or the other value (0 or 1). This unit of data will be called qubits (quantum bits). In summary, this means that there is the possibility of performing many more calculations at once.

One of the great challenges that society in general must face is the amount of investment that will be necessary to make this technology public. Among these investments is a workstation with a very specific configuration for this.

Quantum internet security

Theoretically, the production of quantum internet technology already brings more security than the format we use today. In short, the quantum internet is based on advances in the scientific field in relation to subatomic particles, being a promise of greater security on the web.

In the article, Hanson reported that, according to studies already carried out, when someone performs a data transmission, it tends to be secure, creating stability to prevent the theft of any data.

Basically the technology would have a system where any attempt to steal data, the message will be self-destructed, completely changing its qubits. However, the quantum internet project remains in a test format, but it could open up several paths for greater connections.

Quantum internet utilities

Because it is a much larger flow of data, in the quantum internet, AI will gain new advances. In addition, medicine will be able to have a much greater development and data security will gain a continental scale.

A sector that could grow and become popular is Machine Learning, as data analysis will increase exponentially by combining this technology with AI.
