What ISPR said about the incident of the Secretariat

This information was given in a press release on Monday (August 26).

According to the notification, the army personnel deployed to maintain law and order have strengthened the security system at various important places and all the gates of the secretariat to ensure the overall security of the secretariat area. On this day, approximately 10,000 Ansar members gathered and surrounded the secretariat and held 7 advisers of the interim government and other senior officials hostage. Director General, Ansar and VDP arrived at the Secretariat in the afternoon to calm the agitated Ansar members and accepted all the demands of the Ansar members. However, the agitated Ansar members did not leave the Secretariat area and blocked the Director General of Ansar and VDP and some Ansar members tried to enter by breaking Gate No. 3 of the Secretariat. At that time, the excited Ansar members ambushed the students present at the spot and hit the army patrol guarding the secretariat with sticks along with throwing bricks. At this time, 6 army personnel were injured. 1 of them is in critical condition.

Referring to the issue of control of the situation, it was further said that despite repeated patient engagements with the Ansar members, the agitated Ansars fired 27 rounds of blank bullets in the air to bring the situation under control. Later, Bangladesh deployed additional troops in the Secretariat area and dispersed the Ansars and brought the situation under control. After that, 7 advisers of the Interim Government, DG Ansar, senior law enforcement officers and all the officials of the Secretariat, who were blocked in the Secretariat, left the Secretariat area safely with the help of the army.

The deployed army personnel controlled a number of Ansar members who had infiltrated the secretariat and later sought safe haven for their lives.

Later they were handed over to the police, the notification said.
