The Technical Council of Public Accounting resolved a query related to the requirements that a foreigner must meet to be able to practice the accounting profession in Colombia, whose studies were carried out outside the country.

In this regard, the entity recalled that paragraph 1 of article 3 of Law 43 of 1990 provides that to be registered as a public accountant it is necessary to be a Colombian national in the exercise of civil rights or a foreigner domiciled in Colombia for no less than three years. to the respective request.

To do this, you must have obtained the title of public accountant or an equivalent designation issued by foreign institutions in countries with which Colombia has entered into agreements on reciprocity of titles, endorsed by the government agency authorized for this purpose.

Thus, to practice as a public accountant in Colombia it is necessary to obtain the respective registration before the Central Board of Accountants, which is accredited with the professional card, after the required approval or endorsement of the professional title that recognizes it as such. The Ministry of Education is the entity authorized to carry out this process.
