There are more and more bicycle accidents. Why is this the case – and what part do the cyclists themselves play in this? Mobility researcher Andreas Knie talks about the fight for space on the streets and the role of cargo bikes and SUVs.
Mr. Knie, it has been very smooth in many areas of Germany in the last few days. What advice can you give to people who still cycle to work?
Anyone who rides a bike now needs to know what they are getting into. All I can advise is: drive carefully! But it impresses me when people still get on their bikes under these conditions. I didn’t dare yesterday, and I won’t dare today either. More and more people are getting on their bikes in winter too. These are the so-called all-season cyclists.
