Contrary to what the President of the Republic seemed to assert in his interview given to the Point, since the 2019 reform, the focus has been on mastering chronology in history teaching. In the second class, the new programs range from Antiquity to the Age of Enlightenment, offering work on periodization, albeit on a somewhat too broad field.

In first and last year, the chronological approach structures the course even more finely, which focuses on the contemporary period, from the Revolution to the First World War, then from the 1920s to the 2000s. Step by step, the students follow the political modernization of France.
