What Tamim said indicating his return to the national team

Tamim Iqbal has not been in cricket for a long time. He last played against New Zealand in September 2023. Will Tamim return to the national team? When will you return? This is now the question in the minds of crores of cricket lovers in Bangladesh. He talked about returning to the national team in an interview given to India’s Sportster on Wednesday (09 October). There he hinted to return but mentioned several surrounding issues.

If Tamim is asked to play again under changed circumstances, what will he do? Tamim said, ‘Yes, of course. But the question is – do I play for the cricket board, or do I play for the team? So where will the request to return to the game come from? The cricket board takes care of me. In that case, the players of the team must also have the mindset to welcome me.’

“I have a good relationship with everyone in the team. So hopefully it won’t be a problem. But for example, if I were the captain and we had something to achieve, I would talk to you. I used to share my plans, goals and objectives with you. I would have convinced you to join this journey. In that case, you would have agreed to do everything for me, guaranteed to do everything.’

‘I joined the team and you asked me to join the team; Two different things. Now if a situation arises where both myself and the team feel that my presence is required, then I will definitely think about it.’

Tamim, however, does not want to return to the national team to play only three, four or five matches. But if the matter is in front of a tournament then it is a different matter. He said that if the Bangladesh Cricket Board wants to keep the ICC Champions Trophy in front of 2025, he will consider the matter.

‘Actually everyone came back saying. we want you But if I come back to play only five matches, will it really help Bangladesh cricket? If they have a proper plan, if they want to achieve something, I will consider it. In that case, we can have a discussion. Now if you talk about the Champions Trophy, there too it is a matter of four-five matches. Then there are three more ODIs against the West Indies. In that case we are only talking about six-seven matches. Also, after I left, someone was playing in my place. So it doesn’t make sense to come back just to play a few matches.’

“Now if BCB says they want me for the Champions Trophy, then it’s a different matter. If they want me at least with the goal of playing in the semi-finals, that’s a different matter. In this case, this tournament may be the last tournament for three-four senior cricketers like me. I think BCB can work to solve any problem by putting all past differences and misunderstandings aside. In fact, this will be the right way and the right initiative.’
