“What the hell…” – Mourinho escalates, player has to intervene

Aside from his talent for helping his team succeed as a coach, Jose Mourinho is best known for one thing: his temper. Emotions boiled up once again on “The Special One” last Sunday, after the game the AS Roma coach had a heated dispute with Lazio boss Claudio Lotito.

According to “Il Messaggero”, after the final whistle Mourinho attacked the president of the city rival and asked him “why the hell” was he looking at him. Lotito replied: “I am the President of Lazio and you are a guest. This is my home and I go where I want. And you shouldn’t be here at all.” However, this statement is not entirely correct: Both Lazio and AS Roma use the Stadio Olimpico as their home base. The situation escalated completely as a result of the provocation, according to Mourinho’s assistant coach Salvatore Foti and Lazio’s midfielder Danilo Cataldi should have intervened to prevent fisticuffs. First Roma’s Roger Ibanez was sent off with a yellow card in the 32nd minute, followed in the 97th by team-mate Bryan Cristante and Lazio’s Adam Marusic after the two clashed. From a sporting point of view, the fans of the “home side” were able to celebrate in the end, Mattia Zaccagni had scored the decisive 1-0 for Lazio in the 65th minute of the game.
