Parthasarathy hails from Menangudi village in Tiruvarur district. His wife Manojini is a mason. The couple has been married for 8 years and has two sons and a daughter.
Parthasarathy goes to work as usual, comes home, takes off his shirt and goes out with a different shirt. At that time, Manojini took the money of 200 rupees from her husband’s pocket and bought groceries and kerosene.
Parthasarathy, who had gone out, came home and found no money in his shirt pocket and was enraged. When asked where the money is, Manojini shouts how you took the money from my pocket without asking me to tell the details. During the argument, he took the kerosene he had bought and poured it on his wife.
Enraged at this, Manojini took the firewood burning in the stove and kept it on herself. The body is on fire. Neighbors who came running on hearing the screams rescued Manojini and admitted her to Tiruvarur Government Hospital. Manojini is being treated in a critical condition with 85 per cent injuries.
Peralam police have arrested Parthasarathy on the complaint filed by Manojini’s parents.
