Two months after Kendji Girac’s gunshot wound, the investigation into the shooting is complete.
“The investigations are now concluded”: two months after the shooting that injured Kendji GiracMont-de-Marsan public prosecutor Olivier Janson announces the end of the investigation. On the night between Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd April, the popular singer was the victim of a blow to the chest, which caused him to be hospitalized in serious conditions and undergo a series of interrogations. Kendji Girac explained to investigators that he shot himself in the context of a domestic dispute.
“The investigations, which have since been able to continue peacefully, are now concluded,” the prosecutor’s office announced in a press release published on Monday. The investigators exclude any third-party intervention in the shooting, which was therefore caused by the artist himself, in a context of “advanced alcoholism, aggravated by the use of drugs”. “He returned to these initial statements, indicating that, due to his alcoholism and cocaine use, he was not aware of what he was doing with this weapon,” explained prosecutor Olivier Janson in the same press release. The investigation is therefore closed without further action.
Kendji Girac was, in the same case, indicted for ”acquisition and possession of a category B weapon” and “unlawful use of narcotics”, two crimes punishable by five years and one year in prison respectively. The singer should not be tried for these two charges, but will have to pay two “citizen contributions” to a victims’ support association, and will be subjected to “health monitoring” for six months.
