Afak Law Firm and Legal Consultancy condemned “the Presidential Council’s interference in sovereign bodies and the storming of the Central Bank of Libya,” noting that “it is a step that threatens the economic and financial stability of the Libyan state.”

The Benghazi-based company said in a statement, “What the Presidential Council did by attempting to illegally interfere and penetrate the Central Bank of Libya is an irresponsible act that could lead to disastrous results that threaten to destroy the national economy and destabilize the country on several levels.”

The company explained that “the consequences of this breach cause the collapse of the Libyan dinar, as the value of the Libyan dinar was directly and significantly affected as a result of these illegal measures, which increases the economic burdens on citizens and leads to higher inflation rates, exacerbating the financial crisis and entering a dark tunnel.”

The company stressed that “the measures also cause destabilization of the national economy, as illegal interference in the affairs of the Central Bank of Libya leads to undermining confidence in the Libyan financial system, which will exacerbate the country’s economic and living crises.”

The company indicated that “this will stop all salaries and expenses paid to Libyan embassies abroad, which will expose workers abroad to economic pressures and weaken the state’s ability to perform its diplomatic duties.”

The company called on “the international community to intervene immediately to hold accountable the people who carried out this illegal interference in accordance with international criminal laws, and to bring them to justice and hold them accountable for these illegal actions that threaten Libya’s sovereignty and stability.”

The law firm stressed that “such irresponsible acts will not go unpunished, and we call on the international community and global financial institutions to take all necessary measures to protect the interests of the Libyan people.”

The company concluded its statement by saying: “We affirm that we will not allow our country to be lost due to the actions of the frivolous and irresponsible, and their disregard for justice and legislative laws, and we will remain keen to protect the rights of citizens and defend the rule of law,” stressing that “it will file a lawsuit before the Libyan urgent judiciary against the so-called Receipt and Delivery Committee, to prosecute them legally and bring criminal charges against them for their mockery of legislative bodies.”
