On a surprise visit to kyiv, the head of American diplomacy announced new military and financial aid to Ukraine.

A Russian strike killed at least 17 people in a market in Ukraine
At least 17 civilians were killed on Wednesday in a Russian strike on a market in Kostiantynivka, eastern Ukraine. “Russian terrorists deliberately targeted the market” while no military target was nearby, accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It’s a “despicable attack” against “a war-torn community”, denounced for his part the humanitarian coordinator of the UN for Ukraine Denise Brown. Early in the morning, a Russian explosive drone had already killed one in the Odessa region (southwest), where port infrastructure necessary for wheat exports is regularly hit.
Washington to deliver depleted uranium ammunition to kyiv
The United States has announced that the country will supply Ukraine with ammunition made of depleted uranium, a very dense metal capable of piercing the armor of certain vehicles. The Pentagon, which brings together the institutions of the American defense, specified that these munitions were part of a new package of aid costed at 175 million dollars. Much less radioactive than conventional uranium, this metal is however debated about its toxicity for soldiers and civilians in conflict zones. In March 2023, the United Kingdom had already announced that it wanted to deliver such ammunition to Ukraine.
Ukraine has a new defense minister
The Ukrainian Parliament has appointed Roustem Oumerov as head of Defense, on the proposal of Volodymyr Zelensky. At 41, the former head of the State Property Fund in charge of privatizations will now be responsible for obtaining more weapons for the army. His predecessor, Oleksiï Reznikov, had to leave his post after several corruption scandals.
Volodymyr Zelensky warns winter will be ‘difficult’
Ukraine’s president has warned his government and allies of a “difficult winter” ahead. “We are happy not to be alone to face it. We will do it together with our partners”however, declared the Ukrainian head of state, before thanking the United States for its material support for the energy sector of the country, heavily affected by Russian strikes in 2022.
