Three seasons of philosophical science fiction have already passed over us in the world of “Westworld,” and we still have no answers to the big questions like “What is the meaning of life?” And “What is a soul?” But it seems the creators of the series Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are really working on it. “Westworld”, as I recall, is based on Michael Creighton’s 1973 book which describes a kind of Disneyland of robots that go insane and attack humans. The series took this idea, updated it and refined it, and last season completely broke the boundaries of the original story and galloped into the open world. The rebellion and revenge of the robots on the abused humans naturally raises a host of moral questions, but the series with the mesmerizing aesthetic is much more preoccupied with trying and instilling a mindfuck among its loyal viewers, forcing them to think. The need to embrace the thought while watching – a rare experience on today’s television – is also part of what is fun about it.
“Westworld” is one of the standout MDA series of this time, on HBO they very much hoped it would inherit the popularity of “Game of Thrones”, and it did not happen and was not close to happening.
