It is always said about punk that he is not dead and just smells weird. but it is not true. He’s completely dead and smells weird. A zombie still roaming among us, dancing pogo and mumbling obscure things about Sid Weiss. And so it will probably stay forever. Now again a donor of the Sex Pistols and once again has to tell the origin story of the musical genre that scared the world. The one who tells it this time is Danny Boyle, The Man and the Trainspotting, in a six-episode series called “Pistol” that aired last night on Hulu / FX and Disney Plus servers.

Seemingly a hit: Boyle brings his rhythmic and brutal cinematic language at the service of the energetic story of the gang of brats that Malcolm McLaren has collected to produce a pop scam that has shaken the thresholds of culture. There’s a very fun cast with Louis Partridge, Macy Williams (yes, she grew up), Thomas Brody-Sangster as McLaren, Sydney Chandler as Chrissie Hind, Toby Wallace and Tlola Riley and a host of other cute actors who embody legends in the genre’s history. “Pistol” begins in the first episode like a big pan, but in the background a scandal is already brewing.

The series is based on the autobiographical book of band member Steve Jones, but English culture critics, the band’s fans, and especially the band’s survivor Johnny Leydon, accuse it of being a Disney fantasy that is very loosely based on the true history of pistols and punk, and Leydon even announced he would drag His former friends to the court. The series is well made and will probably win over many viewers, and its critics fear that its rather fictional plot will be established as the true story of the band that terrified the world. Sid Weiss and Mickey Mouse forever.
