What to see tonight: The series that eliminated the vampires is back to bite

by time news

Until recently vampires were a very hot thing. Buffy Summers brought them back to trend and slept with them, “True Blood” turned them into boiling sex symbols, the “Twilight” movie series also made them a wet teenage dream. Their dark gothic mystery fitted like a glove into a gloomy world at the turn of the millennium. And then it’s over. Vampires are no longer cool. Series and movies starring them are raising a cultural rumor that renews nothing. We exhausted the pacifiers. Then came “What Happens in the Shadows” and made them the funniest joke in the world.

The hysterical sitcom of Taika Whitity (“Thor: Love and Thunder”) and Jamaine Clement (“Plate of the Concords”) is based on their 2014 cult film (in which they also starred in the lead roles), and is evolving as a franchise for Himself with a spin-off series (“Wellington Paranormal”) and another film in the early stages of production (“We’re Wolves”). The story of “What Happens in the Shadows” follows three ancient vampires who face life in contemporary New York (along with another friend who is an energy vampire and a chubby human who is their family), and not easy for them, not easy for them at all.

An excellent cast conducted by Kaiban Novak, Matt Barry and Natasia Dimatrio, along with the astonishingly honed writing of the writing team recruited by Whitity and Clement, make “What Happens in the Shadows” a particularly wild comedy, perhaps the wildest on television right now, where everything allowed to be trampled on Vampires are the modern life of our time. For those who have not yet been exposed to the phenomenon, 30 episodes of the previous three seasons are now waiting, plus two new episodes that aired on Tuesday at Disney + (a new episode will air every week until the beginning of September) and a lot of busy facial muscles from uncontrollable laughter spasms.

“What Happens in the Shadows”, season 4, 10 episodes, now on Disney + (and starting on 23.7 also on yes)
