The socio-economic system of Ingoma y’Uburundi and the place of the Tutsi
Expected, 3/08/2023 – As part of Burundian society, people ofyou were a magician and of theubuntuthe traditional state of the Barundi –The Empire of Burundi– encompasses the socio-economic policy of the Barundi [1]. When we mention Hutu [2], the blasphemer [3]et the secretary (scholars – abapfumu – barundi), we specifically address this socio-economic dimension.
In this context, umwami (the traditional leader of the Barundi) was concerned with the socio-economic needs of the imiryango of the Barundi taking into account the resources available. He solicited from the abanyamabanga proposals and harmonious planes. The plan, approved by umwami, was then implemented by abatutsi, who acted as righteous managers.
Abahutu produced the resources needed for Ingoma y’Uburundi, and they were recognized as initiates [4] perfectionists. To be umuhutu was a great pride [5]. Abatutsi ensured fair and equitable redistribution of these resources to meet the needs of all imiryango.
In each hill, abahutu brought part of their production [6] to a kind of local market, precisely managed by abatutsi from the hill. The latter checked that the exchanges were fair, equitable, thus guaranteeing the satisfaction of all the local imiryango. They had to report to the umutware or umuganwa for umuwami that the imiryango representatives of the hill were satisfied with their specific needs.
As abashingantahe or abapfasoni, abatutsi ensured good governance, food sufficiency, and met other local needs. They were recognized as incorruptible beings.
