An FC Nantes supporter died on the night of Saturday December 2 and Sunday December 3, on the sidelines of the Ligue 1 football match between the Nantes club and OGC Nice.

The deceased man was 31 years old and was a member of the Brigade Loire, one of the main supporters’ associations of FC Nantes. According to the daily Ocean Presshis name was Maxime.
Sunday, members of the Loire Brigade painted a fresco “Max forever” on a low wall near the scene of the tragedy in memory of their comrade.

A 35-year-old man was taken into custody for ” voluntary homicide “indicated Sunday morning the public prosecutor of Nantes, Renaud Gaudeul, in a press release.
He is a VTC driver. He went himself to the Nantes police headquarters on Sunday at 4:30 a.m., the magistrate said.

According to the Nantes public prosecutor, “shortly before 8 p.m., several VTC vehicles transporting Nice supporters were attacked by supporters of FC Nantes” on the way to the Nantes stadium. “During these events, in circumstances which remain to be determined, a 31-year-old man, supporter of FC Nantes, collapsed”he added.

Daily life Ocean Press collected the testimony of one of the drivers of the VTC convoy who said he was attacked without being a direct witness to the homicide. “We were in a convoy (two vans and six other cars) to drop off thirty Nice supporters at the stadium when a horde of supporters hooded in black or yellow and green (the colors of FC Nantes) appeared and attacked us”he said.
“They started opening the doors and hitting my customers inside. I rolled down my window and told them to stop it. A guy kicked my grille. He turned around, he hit my windshield (…) And all my other colleagues were attacked too”said the driver.
► What are the causes of the death of the supporter?
According to the prosecutor, the Nantes supporter is “died on the spot”, “despite the rapid intervention of emergency services”. “The very first forensic investigations show that the victim has a wound in the back, which could correspond to a bladed weapon”he clarified.
According to a source close to the case interviewed on Saturday evening, the deceased man received a stab wound, probably from one of the VTC drivers attacked.
