At times, the EU gave a bad picture when ordering corona vaccines. Vaccines were therefore also rare in Germany. A report by the EU has investigated why – and only partially confirms the usual allegations.

DThe discussion lasted about six months, from December 2020 to May 2021. During that period, considerably less corona vaccine arrived in the EU than in the USA or Britain, for example. That was, according to the accusation made not least in Germany, the fault of the bodies involved in ordering the vaccine, above all the EU Commission.

This was too naive, too hesitant and too frugal, they ordered too late and too little. The order “went really shitty,” the current Chancellor complained at the time, and the facts seemed to confirm him: At the end of the first quarter of 2021, 46 percent of adult Britons had received their first vaccine dose, 33 percent of Americans, but only 13 percent of the EU -Citizens.
