When do the Olympics start?
The opening ceremony for the official start of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will take place on Friday 26 July.
But the sporting action actually begins on Wednesday, July 24, with pool matches in football, rugby, handball and archery.
The ambitious opening ceremony will take place along the Seine River, instead of in a stadium as usual.
The first medals will be awarded a day later and the competition will conclude on August 11, with the closing ceremony later that evening.
When will the 100m finals in athletics be?
The women’s 100m final will take place on Saturday 3 August, followed by the men’s 100m final just over 24 hours later on 4 August.
Both will be held at the Stade de France, where all athletics events will take place.
How many gold medals will be won?
There are 329 gold medal events in Paris, with a total of 39 medals up for grabs on the penultimate day of competition, Saturday 10 August.
The first medal of the Games will be in shooting – a mixed team with an air rifle.

The only new sport for the 2024 Olympics will be break dancing, which originated in the Bronx in New York in the 1970s but has evolved to become a competition.

A total of 32 competitors, 16 men and 16 women, will fight for the medals.
