What’s on tonight: Don’t cry for me, Argentina. I’m a wild doll

by time news

Some years ago, Israel was surrounded by Argentinian telenovelas. “The Rebels”, “Almost Angels”, “Tiny” and of course the old telenovela “Celesta” (and the pledge with the amazing name – “Celesta, always Celeste”). But of all of them, it’s hard to say that there was a frenzy in Israel like there was around “Wild Doll”, and specifically, around the star Natalia Oreiro. My God, this is a woman who was bitten by Dodo Topaz. How many Argentine women can say that? Probably a lot, but she is the only one who bit into the heart of the Israeli primates.

Now the star that we loved so much in Israel is gaining a significant break into the international market with a new mini-series that premiered worldwide on Hulu (and is available in Israel on Disney Plus) that unfolds the story of Eva Peron, who is better known as “Evita”. Yes, the same one that Madonna played in the 1995 movie. Peron was the wife of President Juan Peron, but above all she was a heroine of the working class and a true symbol of the poor of Argentina, and therefore also became an iconic figure.

Oreiro probably learned a thing or two from Israeli actors, because in most of the series she will play the corpse of Eva – the series “Santa Evita” does not actually tell the story of her life, but focuses on the bizarre plot that began with her death from cervical cancer in 1952, at the age of only 33. So her body was embalmed and put on display, smuggled to be buried in Italy, moved to be buried in Madrid, returned to Argentina, kidnapped by the dictatorial regime and basically lived her death longer than most of us live our lives.

The first episode of “Santa Evita” is now available on Disney Plus. A new episode goes up every Tuesday
