What’s Open and Closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day 2023: Target, Walmart, Whole Foods and More

As New Year’s Eve approaches, many people will be leaving their celebrations to run errands and take care of last-minute tasks. Whether it’s making returns, grabbing groceries, or picking up prescriptions, it’s important to know which stores and services will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Target has announced that their stores will be open on December 31 from 8 am to 10 pm local time, and on New Year’s Day, they will open a little later at 9 am and close at 10 pm. Similarly, Walmart has confirmed that they will be open on both days. JCPenney stores will open at 11 am on New Year’s Eve, and on New Year’s Day, stores will be open from 11 am to 6 pm local time.

For those planning to shop at Macy’s, most stores will be open from 10 am to 7 pm on New Year’s Eve and operate regular hours on New Year’s Day. Other popular retailers like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra, and Homesense will have modified hours from 9:30 am to 6 pm on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, and Kohl’s will be open from 9 am to 7 pm on New Year’s Eve and 10 am to 9 pm on New Year’s Day.

When it comes to grocery shopping, Wegmans, Safeway, Albertsons, ACME, and Shaw’s will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, with modified hours in some locations. Aldi, Trader Joe’s, and Costco, on the other hand, will have reduced hours or be closed on New Year’s Day.

For pharmaceutical needs, CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens will have varied hours on New Year’s Eve and regular hours on New Year’s Day, but it’s always best to check with your local store to confirm.

In terms of postal and delivery services, the US Postal Service will not deliver mail on New Year’s Day, and UPS will not have pick up or delivery service either, except for its Express Critical service. FedEx will not be doing regular pickup and delivery on New Year’s Eve, but its Home Delivery, Office, and Custom Critical services will be open. On New Year’s Day, FedEx will be closed except for its Custom Critical service.

Most banks will be closed on New Year’s Day, following the Federal Reserve banking holidays, but mobile banking services and ATMs will still be available.

Lastly, the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will not be trading on New Year’s Day.

It’s important to note that while some stores and services have confirmed their holiday hours, individual locations may have different operating hours, so it’s always best to contact your local store before heading out.
