A recent video posted on Kerala-based YouTube channel TJ’s Vehicle Point has exposed a two-wheeler driver being fined for traveling with less petrol.

Dhankachan from Kerala runs a YouTube channel called TJ’s Vehicle Point. With 10 years of experience as a surveyor and loss assessor in the insurance business and 15 years as a motor vehicle inspector in the motor vehicle industry, he is currently creating awareness about the insurance & motor vehicles industry through videos.

In his latest video, he has shown a salan and talked about its background. He said, “Recently a two-wheeler driver was fined for traveling with less petrol. I have got the related images and screenshots. The challan in this regard has been issued by the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department. I have been an analyst for almost 10 years. Yet I have never heard of any fine being imposed for such a reason. I also don’t know if there is any provision for this in the Kerala Motor Vehicle Act. As far as I know, such challans will not stand up in the court of law.”

Here is the relevant challan…

He also said, Similar rules apply to vehicles used for public transport. For example, if a car, van, bus etc. is used for any public service, it should be filled with sufficient petrol. If not filled, the owner of the vehicle may be fined up to Rs.250. Therefore, public transport vehicle drivers and commercial vehicle drivers should be careful in this matter. Apart from these, none of these rules apply to private vehicles used for personal reasons like the challan I have received today.

Also speaking,Such challans do not give a good impression to the public on the road transport sector. For India, this is not the first time that someone has been fined and issued a challan for a wrong reason. Even two months back, a similar challan was issued in Delhi. Accordingly, a driver was fined for not wearing a helmet. The Delhi Police then apologized, explaining that it was a typing error due to a technical glitch.

After this, there were some interesting incidents of reconciling with the person and giving them roses.

The Delhi incident went viral. In fact, many people have a bad image of the transport sector. The authorities should handle all such matters carefully,” he said.
