WhatsApp has now activated the screenshot block for profile pictures on iOS devices as well. This feature, which was already introduced on Android devices in the spring, blocks screenshots in the profile picture view. The exact timing of the activation on iOS is unclear, and the feature may be distributed gradually. However, for some users, including those in the CHIP editorial team (see screenshot), the blocking is already active.
According to WhatsApp, the aim of this measure is to protect users’ privacy. Screenshots are only blocked when a foreign profile picture is tapped and viewed in full view. However, screenshots of the profile page with the smaller view of the profile picture remain possible. This is intended to make the quick “grabbing” of someone else’s profile picture more difficult and less appealing.
