Meta, a company that includes platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, has introduced the first experience of purchase within the messaging app WhatsAppwhich already allows India – the main market for this tool, which has more than 2,000 million users globally – to purchase products from a supermarket.

The novelty comes as part of the company’s plans to contribute to the digital transformation in the country. To make this possible, Meta has partnered with Indian e-commerce company JioMart to introduce shopping via WhatsApp, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed on his Facebook profile.

This alliance seeks accelerate India’s digital transformationand allows JioMart to display a catalog with its products in the messaging ‘app’, from where users can select the product they want, the quantity they want to receive, and see the price.

The items are added to the chat with the merchant, and when the shopping list is complete, the payment is also made from the same place.

With this shopping experience, the company hopes to “revolutionize the way millions of businesses across India connect with their consumers,” as noted in a statement on the official blog. Goal has not shared plans to transfer this functionality to other territories coming soon.
