WhatsApp hacked: alarm also in the province of Agrigento: about twenty complaints filed

by time news

Identity theft has spread not only to Facebook and Instagram, but also to WhatsApp. The latter is a crime that has often been associated with fraud and scams. Criminals take over the account and exploit the messaging service to steal sensitive data. In our province, about twenty reports have already been filed in recent months, the latest of which was filed yesterday morning with the Carabinieri of the Agrigento station. The victim was a forty-year-old accountant.

The WhatsApp scam is related to sending a code or a link accompanied by a message, which has the purpose of taking over the private account of the targeted person. By clicking or replying to the message, most of the time you could be the victim of a scam. Furthermore, by using the phone number, the criminals could have access to the contacts saved in the address book and thus trigger a sort of “chain letter”.

“For now it is circulating a lot in Agrigento, you have to pay attention to every link or message that arrives on your cell phone and never click or respond”, repeat the police.
