WhatsApp is reportedly developing a feature to generate AI avatars using Meta and its Llama artificial intelligence. Currently, no release date has been announced.
WhatsApp, the messaging application of the Meta group, would see the arrival of an artificial intelligence module that would allow it to generate user avatars, according to WABetaInfo.
Powered by Meta
This new feature was seen in beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.14.7. It would use Meta’s Llama artificial intelligence to generate images from a combination of user-supplied images or even text commands. This is not the first time that WhatsApp has tried its hand at artificial intelligence. The “Imagine” function was shown in May and uses a text shortcut to generate images through artificial intelligence based on a specific request in user conversations.
Describe for me if you can
To create this personalized avatar, WhatsApp asks users to take photos of themselves that will be used to train Meta’s artificial intelligence. From these photos, Llama will be able to reproduce images of them in different contexts. From then on, users will be able to use a text command by writing “Imagine me” with a more specific description within the application settings or in other WhatsApp conversations by typing “@Meta AI imagine me…”.
This function was already reported some time ago, but we now have a glimpse of what this could bring in terms of thanks to the screenshot below.

This functionality will not be applied to users out of concern for respecting personal data. Users will have to activate the option within the WhatsApp settings. WABetainfo, states that images used to train artificial intelligence can be deleted in the settings. The tool is also unable to read users’ private conversations. A security measure found on other applications, it is therefore possible to deny access to our data to AI training for Instagram and Facebook.
Currently, as the company has not made the official function, no release date has been announced. Meta AI, the new assistant from Zuckerberg’s company, continues to develop and is deployed across all applications of the group: Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and even Quest headphones.
