WhatsApp continues to work to improve the tool. Currently, the ‘app’ owned by Meta is developing a ddouble verification system with which it is intended to improve the privacy of the user’s account. In the event that someone tries to open a WhatsApp account on a new terminal, the application will send a second numerical code and a notification to the Internet user informing them that someone is trying to use their account on another mobile phone, according to WABetaInfo .

Currently, WhatsApp only has a verification system that requires the introduction of a six-digit code before registering the account in a new terminal. However, if a person registers a phone number in a WhatsApp account and manages to obtain the code that is sent to this number to continue with the installation process, the account present in the first device is unlinked.

Now, the social network is working on a new verification system for mobile devices by sending two codes to avoid cyber attacks. Thanks to the function, which is located in beta phase for iOS and Androidwhen the first attempt to log in to a WhatsApp account is successful, it will require another code six-digit number, which is shared with the primary device, to complete the process. In this way, cybercriminals will have a more difficult time stealing an account.

This second verification includes a notification that “the number is being used by WhatsApp on another phone. To make sure your account is under your control, you need to confirm another verification code.” Also, this message informs that, to reinforce the security of the users, a timer has been introduced. The user must wait for it to finish in order to enter the six-digit code and complete the application recovery process.

It should be remembered that cybercriminals have had a great interest in robbing users of their accounts in the messaging ‘app’ for years. Thanks to this, they can impersonate the victim and launch attacks against their contacts. Normally, criminals often try to trick users through messages on WhatsApp to get them to share authentication codes. In case they get them, they have full access to the account, which is no longer available to the victim.
