After Twitter, iMessages… make way for WhatsApp! On Monday, Meta announced that editing messages after they’ve been sent will soon be possible on the instant messaging app WhatsApp. Contacted by Le Parisien, the company specifies that this new functionality will be available in the “coming weeks” in France.

A “modified” notice will appear

In a press release, Meta specifies the contours of this novelty. The modification of the messages will be possible within the fifteen minutes which follow their sending. Once the messages have been changed, a “modified” mention will appear, so that the recipients are notified. But they will not be able to read the original message.

“Whether it’s to correct a spelling mistake or put a message back in context, this new feature gives users more control over their discussions,” Meta writes in its press release to justify the implementation of this new feature on its application.

“As with all personal messages, media and calls, your messages and any changes you make to them are protected by end-to-end encryption,” Meta says. This feature already exists for iPhone users who, since June 2022, can edit their iMessages with the iOS 16 update. On the social media side, subscribers to the Twitter Blue service can edit their tweets up to thirty minutes after they are published. .
