WhatsApp will have a new payment function

by time news

The most famous messaging application in the world will have a new function for Brazilians soon. O Banco Central (BC) authorized payments from people to retailers (P2M) through WhatsApp.

Two years ago, the monetary authority had released transfers between people, but the function did not take off in the face of strong competition from Pix. Now, the market expects the new tool to start working in April and leverage commercial transactions through the application.

With the measure, it will be possible to pay for the purchase of a product or service through WhatsApp.

The BC informed on Thursday 2nd that it decided for the “complete cessation of the coercive measures” applied to Mastercard and Visa for WhatsApp payments. In practice, therefore, the monetary authority completed the last step for flag customers to make purchases through the application.

“In this way, there are no more regulatory impediments to carrying out purchase transactions with credit, debit and prepaid cards through WhatsApp,” the BC said in a note. “This new functionality joins the transfer of resources between users of this application, authorized in March 2021.”

WhatsApp celebrates decision

The head of the messaging application in Latin America, Guilherme Horn, celebrated the release on his social networks. “Today is a happy day for us here: we are pleased to receive the news of the authorization for the launch of our personal payment service for small and medium-sized companies by the Central Bank.”
