WhatsApp will no longer work on some phones

As of January 1, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer be supported on a number of older Android smartphones running Android KitKat and earlier versions of the operating system.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru, this was reported by the publication GSMArena.

We are talking about at least 19 models of once popular devices from Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG and Sony, released more than 10 years ago. Among them are the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2, the first generation Motorola Moto G, HTC One X, LG Optimus G and Nexus 4, as well as several Sony Xperia models.

Meta’s decision is driven by the need to support new WhatsApp features and capabilities, including AI-based features that require more advanced hardware. Users of these devices are advised to transfer all WhatsApp data to newer devices before January 1, 2025, otherwise chat history and media files will be irretrievably lost.

Meta previously announced that WhatsApp will stop supporting several iPhone models running iOS 15.1 or lower as of May 5, 2025. Affected devices include iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
