With this feature, the instant messaging application aims to discourage the casual and unauthorized sharing of this type of images.

WhatsApp is working on a new feature to block screenshots of profile photos, in a new move to safeguard user privacy. As reported by WABetaInfo on Tuesday, the feature is available in the 2.24.4.25 update for some Android beta testers and will be available to more users in a few weeks.

According to the specialized portal, when trying to take a screenshot of the image, a notification appears indicating that the action was blocked.

With this feature, the instant messaging app owned by Meta* aims to discourage the casual and unauthorized sharing of profile photos and goes beyond the measure taken 5 years ago, when the option to save such images was removed.

“By allowing users to block screenshots of their profile photos, WhatsApp is giving them more control over their privacy and ensuring that their images are not shared or stored without permission,” the outlet said.

However, there are still loopholes, as you can still take the photo using a device or a secondary camera. It is also quite easy to save a contact’s display image using the WhatsApp Web version.
