WhatsApp: your friends’ avatars will invade your private messages

by time news

The entire Meta family will have the right to their little virtual characters. After Messenger, Instagram and Facebook and even competitor Snapchat, it’s WhatsApp’s turn to announce this Wednesday a new feature with Avatars, a somewhat “cartoon” digital version of oneself.

With billions of combinations of hair, skin or facial features, they will be customizable at will to stick as closely as possible to reality. You will be able to use it as a profile picture or make it react with a personalized sticker with 36 possible emotions or actions. A bit like Apple’s Memojis, Bitmoji on Snapchat or AR Emoji on Samsung.

Conversations will be enriched by these personalized avatars.

Gradual deployment in France

It will be easy to create his avatar in a few steps by selecting a skin color, a haircut and continuing on a hair color, the shape of the eyes, the beard… until you compose the right formula to embody you. The stickers are automatically generated from this template.

According to Meta, the rollout of this feature has started in France and this update will be complete in the coming weeks. In time to abuse it during the holiday season.
