Wheat exports from Russia in June accelerated sharply

by time news

In the first half of June, Russia exported more than 1 million tons of grain – more than in the entire May of this year (about 900 thousand tons). This is reported by “Kommersant” with reference to the data of “Sovecon” and “Rusagrotrans”.

While maintaining this pace, Sovecon assumed that in general June could become a record: exports will amount to 2.7 million tons of grain, including 2.4 million tons of wheat. At the same time, according to Rusagrotrans, since the beginning of June, 1.45 million tons of grain have been exported, including 1.34 million tons of wheat. Rusagrotrans’s forecast for June is 2.35–2.4 million tons of grain, including up to 2.3 million tons of wheat.

For comparison, the previous maximum grain export was recorded at around 2.15 million tons in June 2018.

The reason for such dynamics, as the newspaper writes, is the reduction of the export duty on wheat from 50 euros per ton after the introduction of a floating rate on June 2, when the duty was set at $ 28.1 per ton. After that, the rate was increased several times. The size of the duty from June 23 – $ 38.1 per ton.

At the end of May, the Ministry of Agriculture predicted grain exports of 48 million tons in 2020-2021. agricultural year. As noted by Oksana Lut, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, this will allow Russia to maintain its leadership in wheat supplies to the world market. Shortly before the forecast of the Russian department, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) published its forecast of the grain harvest in Russia in 2021. According to the department, 126.5 million tons of wheat can be harvested on Russian territory (excluding Crimea) this year, of which 85 million tons of wheat and 41.5 million tons of feed grain.
