INTERVIEW – Created in 2009, the NGO Alima (“The Alliance for International Medical Action”) works in thirteen countries, mainly in Africa. Its managing director, Dr.r Moumouni Kinda, describes the challenges that humanitarian medicine will have to meet in the years to come.

LE FIGARO. – In what situations do you intervene?

Dr Moumouni Kinda. – We always come for a specific purpose: a high prevalence of malnutrition, an epidemic crisis, humanitarian needs linked to the displacement of populations due to a conflict or extreme climatic events… In North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, for example, we have deployed mobile clinics in refugee camps to treat cases of dehydration, diarrhea or cholera, and provide booster shots for children. As our long-term objective is always to strengthen the local health system, we recruit and train doctors, nurses and logisticians on site. We also build links with communities and local actors in order to develop prevention actions, with an emphasis on the health of children and pregnant women.
