Installing a heat pump is becoming increasingly popular. Two experts explain what is important and whether an additional photovoltaic system makes sense.
Dhe heat pump is an all-purpose weapon for many: if it is operated with renewable energies, it represents a climate-friendly alternative to oil or gas heating. And the energy efficiency can also be significantly higher compared to the fossil alternatives. Critics, on the other hand, argue that the acquisition costs are relatively high, the energy efficiency in old buildings is low and the electricity mix in Germany is far from 100 percent green. So what needs to be considered and is it worthwhile to also purchase a photovoltaic system?
According to the Federal Statistical Office, the heat pump was used as the most important energy source in more than half of all new buildings in 2021 – and the trend is rising. According to a draft law by the federal government this week, from 2024 every new heating system should be operated with at least 65 percent renewable energy. And this is often only possible with a heat pump.
