Holiday date after Easter

The next holiday on the calendar is Labor Day, which falls on Wednesday, May 1. This day of celebration and recognition for workers does not change its date, as stipulated by the Constitutional Court in 2020. Why isn’t Labor Day scheduled for Monday or Friday?
Decree 19-2018, a reform to the Law that promotes Domestic Tourism (decree 42-2010), established that the Labor Day holiday could be moved to Monday if it coincided with a weekday or weekend. However, in 2020 the Constitutional Court annulled this regulation not only for May 1 but also for October 20.

Labor Day in Guatemala, a day of paid rest
May 1 is a day off with remunerated salary, as established in article 127 of the Labor Code, decree 1441 of the Congress of the Republic.
Therefore, if due to the business line of the company you work for, it requires you to work on May 1, the law establishes that you must be paid that day as “extraordinary work”, that is, you must be paid 50% more. of what they pay you for 1 day worked. This is according to what is established in article 128 of the code.
When will we have a long weekend again?
But what about the long-awaited long weekend? 2024 brings us three long weekends and we have only enjoyed one (New Year’s Eve). The next date on the calendar that will give us three glorious days of rest in a row is Army Day, June 30. Mark your calendar!
