October says goodbye and has been, in many ways, an incentive for the soul and spirit, in times when deficiencies of various kinds mark the day to day, and every act and feeling is appreciated from the most genuine part of our culture.
Who said that art does not comfort, that it does not incite or create? The tenth month of the year has brought together that great variety of manifestations that are part of our identity and sense of belonging.
From each space it has been lived in a different way. In Mariel, witnessing each proposal was, for many, a sip of encouragement and renewed energy. Intense days showed what has been done – not in one day or two, but, as a result of perseverance -, in a Week of Marielena Culture that also traditionally takes place on this date and united wills.
How can we not appreciate the talent of children who gave their best in each presentation, and from such a young age they overflow with joy everywhere; of those beekeepers who know sacrifices at such an early age, of how important it is to obtain good academic results to dedicate time to other such noble purposes; of those parents who are unconditionally faithful company and support every initiative that contributes to better performance.
How not to take advantage of every opportunity to fill the spaces with color, with the guidance of plastic arts instructors, who have trained and are training generations that, on more than one occasion, have surprised this municipality with numerous awards.
It is impossible not to see the effort of a natural promoter who overcomes any limitation so that the troupes continue among the public’s preference in each festivity, or not to overwhelm the beat of the Mariela conga.
And what about amateur artists! Demonstrating the much-needed perseverance, they keep alive the Lucas Armenteros in memorian Interpretation Contest, which recently celebrated its twenty-fourth edition and since its inception has promoted Cuban music; artists who, without hesitation, make themselves felt in each of the activities, embracing the opportunity to grow.
Behind every result, without a doubt, there are dedicated people, who demonstrate how much can be done with few resources but a lot of will. What are our artists made of? With heart, dedication, talent…, some would say; inspiration, feeling, vibe…, others would affirm. In each presentation there is a piece of themselves.
But, October is not the only ideal occasion to see so much waste of talent: presentations by La Colmenita, the groups Talento de Barrio, Juventud de Mariel and Los guaracheritos del gozo, as well as exhibitions of plastic arts, are now common.
The space is also common Culture in the neighborhood (which every month brings a varied show to a certain CDR where constant interaction with the public is promoted), meanwhile, the Clave choir has brought some surprises a few months after its constitution, the theater is reborn in the municipality with the group Propuesta 23, the duo Alma makes itself felt, the Peña Mexicana is rescued, the artisans are inserted in different events and the Continuarte Local Development Project continues to promote new cultural proposals such as La noche marieleña, cada friday or La noche cubana , Sundays.
The kinfuiti marks the making of a group that bears distinctive traditions from the town of Quiebra Hacha, and the Ernesto González Puig provincial fine arts hall endures over time. in Memorialthe Enrique Álvarez Jane provincial literature contest, the Landscape Meeting, the La Lupe patron saint festival, the Creators of Dreams weaving contest…
New events such as La Voz Juvenile have been added, and for the first time, Mariel hosted the National Festival of Break Dancewith the aspiration of continuing to host this event in future editions.
Although it is not the intention, it is very likely that outside of these mentions there will be some proposal that exalts what is done from this terroir. And October, and, why not?, every day of the calendar, is a source of inspiration for art and culture.
