The day we change the time is coming.
Daylight saving time is the time change that a state chooses to adopt for a certain period of the year. This change is generally one hour before solar time.
It is based on a system that aims to make the best use of daylight to save energy.
In Greece and Europe, summer time applies on the last Sunday of Marchfor 7 months, and Winter (or solar) time starts on the last Sunday of October, and lasts for 5 months.
This year, October ends on Thursday the 31st, therefore the time will change on Sunday the 27th of the month. Therefore, the hands of the clocks must turn an hour ago at dawn, in the context of winter.
“We remind you that on Sunday, October 27, the application of the summer time measure will expire, in accordance with Directive 2000/84 of the European Parliament and of the Council EE 19/01/2001, regarding the summer time provisions. The clock hands must be moved back one hour, ie from 04:00 AM. at 03:00 am”, notes the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in a statement.
Today, the part of the world’s population that uses daylight saving time is a minority, because almost all countries in Asia and Africa do not participate, and others have eliminated it or it is intended to do so.
The European Union decided to stop changing time in 2021, which gave the possibility for each member state to independently choose summer or winter permanence. In Greece, the relevant consultation was postponed indefinitely.
