Ahead of the match against Beitar Jerusalem to be held at Sami Ofer on Saturday at 20:00, Maccabi Haifa defender Raz Meir was interviewed on the club’s official website and answered questions sent by the fans.
Meir He said: “I changed the number to 22 because I underwent two surgeries, along with faith in God and consultation with my rabbi and father, I decided to change the number,” he said about the change he made.
When asked about his most significant moment at Maccabi Haifa, he replied: “The first championship, every time I remember it I get chills, and it is the craziest thing that has happened to me in my life. The second championship and the Champions League are of course also significant, but it’s simply a moment that will be engraved in the memory.”
He said about the relationships in the group: “I have special relationships with everyone, I don’t think there is anyone in particular who is the best friend. Omar Azili and I understand each other, and our combination is good together. I go to training with Dolev Haziza, with Rami Gershon I study for a degree. Mavis Chibuta? If he received a shekel for every word he uttered, Yankel would have been in debt a long time ago.”
He noted about his special celebration: “Many know that I play ‘Call of Duty’ on PlayStation. It started from there, back when Omri Glazer was in the team. It’s a celebration you do after you kill someone. My Idol? Kyle Walker from Manchester City is strong, fast and aggressive.”
Meir concluded: “The best green crowd in Israel, no doubt. I experienced it even in difficult moments and I came to know that it really is an audience that supports and gives love from everywhere. My injury? It was a difficult time, especially mentally. I can say that the family and my wife were very supportive of me, even on the flight to Chicago. Glad I was able to recover.”
