When is Men’s Day | Society | Magazine

by time news

The date of March 8 is increasingly known worldwide due to the demand for women’s rights, relegated for many generations.

With so much tribute, march, and entertainment for women, many people question on social networks if there is a similar celebration dedicated to men. Yes, Men’s Day exists, although it is a rather recent celebration.

The designated date to celebrate International Men’s Day is November 19. According to several information sites, this celebration arose in 1992 in the United States by Thomas Oaster, who was director of the Center for Men’s Studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas and popularized since 1999, when, at the initiative of the International Committee of Men , in Trinidad and Tobago, International Men’s Day was proclaimed globally and began to be commemorated internationally, the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico (CND) highlights on its website.

The objective of highlighting a date to commemorate men is to reflect on new non-sexist, patriarchal or violent masculinities, since these also affect men. This day does not intend to equal or compete with the demands of the female gender’s fight for equality, but rather to highlight the positive role that men can play in society, recalls the CND.

The commemoration of Men’s Day has three fundamental pillars.

  • Promote positive male role models: everyday men with decent and honest lives.
  • Celebrate the positive contributions of men to society, community, family, marriage, childcare and the environment.
  • Focus on men’s social, emotional, physical and spiritual health and well-being.
  • On the other hand, December 10, Human Rights Day enshrines the rights of all human beings and is rather a celebration of each of the beings of this species that populate the Earth, whether men or women.

    Father’s Day with Saint Joseph

There are countries where International Men’s Day is celebrated on March 19, coinciding with Father’s Day, such as in Spain, which is combined with the celebration of Saint Joseph.

A curiosity about the date November 19 is that it is also recognized as Toilet Day. (YO)
