Nagercoil: A mother has been arrested for poisoning a one-and-a-half-year-old child to death near Marthandam.
Jagadeesh’s wife Karthika (33) from Kulakachi was arrested in connection with the murder of her son Saran. When the relationship with a friend was disrupted, they were poisoning four- and one-and-a-half-year-old children in the stew. The eldest child escaped. Their friend Sunil from Marayapuram was also taken into police custody.
Karthika Jagadeesh was informed that her son Python, who was playing in front of the house on Wednesday evening, had lost consciousness. He was rushed to hospital but could not be pronounced alive. Suspicious neighbors reported the incident to police. An investigation by the Marthandam police revealed that Karthika had given poison to the stew and given it to the two children. Karthika told police that she decided to kill Sunil when the children interfered with his relationship with him.
When Karthika reached her relative’s house, she became close with Sunil. It was while continuing the relationship that Sunil came to know that Karthika was married and had children. With this, Sunil refused to continue the relationship. Police said the children were then poisoned.
