“August 3 around 4 p.m. 35 minutes Trakai district, Paežerėlii village, near the Palukni airfield, a glider fell. A 45-year-old man who was flying a glider was injured and was taken to the hospital in serious condition,” the Police Department reported.
Ambulances, police, firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident.
Vigilantes of the Vilnius County Police Commissariat informed the news portal lrytas.lt that, according to preliminary data, the pilot had broken his arm and leg. He was found conscious at the scene of the accident.
Firefighters lifted the man from the wrecked glider and handed him over to the medical team.
The pilot was rushed to Vilnius hospital.
It is not yet clear what club he belongs to, or whether there was a training session just before the air crash. It is also not yet known why he was unable to control the glider, perhaps there was a malfunction.
